Understanding the Differences: Event Micro Minis vs. Outdoor Mini session

As a pet photographer, I know how important it is to capture memories of your furry family members. That’s why I offer a variety of session types to suit every pet’s personality and every pet parent’s needs. Two of my most popular offerings are event micro minis and outdoor time-slot minis. Both are great options for getting beautiful, stylized photos of your pets, but they have some key differences. Let’s break them down to help you decide which session type is right for you and your pet.

Event Micro Minis

Event micro minis, also known as “micro minis,” are held during special events, often with a specific theme and setup. These sessions are quick, fun, and perfect for capturing a few standout images of your pet.

  • Affordable Option: Micro minis are a more budget-friendly option compared to outdoor minis or full sessions. They’re ideal if you’re looking to update your pet’s photos or want a few themed images without a big investment.
  • Short and Sweet: These sessions are quick, usually lasting just 5 minutes. This shorter time frame means you get fewer photos to choose from, but the images you do receive will be high quality and carefully curated as always
  • Best for Social Pets: Micro minis are great for pets that thrive in social environments or ones that simply don’t mind being around other people and dogs. If your pet is comfortable with distractions, this could be a perfect fit.
  • Considerations for anxious or reactive pets: Because these events are held in busy, sometimes bustling locations, they can be stressful for pets who are nervous around crowds, loud noises, or unfamiliar dogs. If this sounds like your pet, outdoor minis or full sessions might be a better option.

Outdoor Time-Slot Mini session

Outdoor time-slot minis are longer, private sessions held in beautiful outdoor locations. They happen back to back but there isn’t a dog waiting 5 feet from the scene while we are taking your pets pictures. These sessions provide a more tailored experience while still offering affordability compared to full sessions.

  • More Space, Less Stress: Outdoor minis are ideal for pets that need space and fewer distractions. The private time slots means a more calm environment where your pet can relax and be themselves. We are still outdoors so theres always a chance of people and pets being in the same area, but less likely to be encroaching your pets bubble.
  • More Variety: With more time (typically 10-20 minutes) and flexibility, these sessions allow for a wider variety of images. Whether it’s action shots, portraits, or candid moments, your pet’s unique personality will shine through.
  • Higher Upfront Cost: While outdoor minis have a higher price tag than micro minis, they provide greater value in terms of variety and a personalized experience. You’ll receive a personal gallery with more images to choose from, making it a great option if you’re looking for a more diverse collection.

Both Options: The Common Ground

Whether you choose event micro minis or outdoor time-slot minis, both are excellent ways to capture stunning, stylized photos of your pet. Here are some shared benefits:

  • Affordable Way to Get Professional Photos: Both options are budget-friendly alternatives to full sessions, making professional pet photography accessible.
  • Stylized Themes: From seasonal backdrops to unique props, these sessions allow you to get creative and celebrate your pet in fun, themed setups.
  • Perfect for Updates: They’re a great way to update your pet’s photos and capture their current stage of life without committing to a full session.

When a Full Session Might Be the Better Fit

While minis are fantastic for many pets and their parents, there are plenty of times when a full session is the best option:

  • More Time and Customization: Full sessions offer a completely personalized experience. You’ll have more say in timing, location, and backgrounds to create the perfect photos. Don’t worry I am always here to give recommendations, you never have to come up with locations yourself.
  • For Pets That Need Extra Time: If your pet is shy, nervous, or has special needs, the slower pace of a full session can help them feel more comfortable.
  • Unlimited Creativity: Full sessions allow us to capture a variety of images. Really giving us time to let your pets personality shine through.

Which Session is Right for You?

The choice between event micro minis, outdoor time-slot minis, or a full session depends on your pet’s personality, your goals, and your budget. No matter which option you choose, my goal is to create beautiful, heartfelt images that capture the love you have for your pet.
